![]() Much of Shakespeare’s popularity, indeed, rested on the extent to which he had already been altered and was thus available for further alteration – his texts were seen as fundamentally unfixed and so free for remoulding and reshaping. It shows that Shakespeare’s plays were known best in their adapted Restoration forms they were then further altered and it was already-altered seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Shakespeare plays that provided characters, plot moments, and ‘beauties’ to be threaded through subsequent adaptations and, occasionally, imitations. It’s wild with Elizabethan characters in an accurate and ornate look at the 16th century underbelly of London, with some intricate plot twists throughout. The novel contains mystery, suspense, comedy, drama, and a tender, though illicit, gay love story. It’s a tale of the greatest literary deception of all time. The Crown slowly closes in on Marlowe and Sir Walsingham sacrifices himself to save the young playwright. When Sir Walsingham races to Italy to warn Marlowe that the Crown has learned where he’s hiding, Sir Walsingham finds Marlowe in an affair with the killer sent to murder him. Marlowe must flee to Italy to hide where he continues to write, almost plotting the path of his escapes by locating the plays in various Italian cities. At that point, Shakespeare sweats to hide his lack of knowledge about the new works. When the Crown becomes suspicious, they send Constable Maunder, a dumb-as-a-fox investigator. But soon Marlowe becomes anxious to have his recent writings produced and so they hire a bumbling, unknown actor named Shakespeare to front for the new works. He and his patron (and lover) Sir Thomas Walsingham, devise a plot to fake the playwright’s murder. In 1593, Christopher Marlowe, England’s foremost playwright is arrested and scheduled to be tried for treason. The novel is available in hardbound, paperback, ebook and audiobook. This novel has been made into a stage play that has been produced Off-Broadway and across the U.S. The question of the true authorship of Shakespeare’s works has become a popular subject in the last four years. “The Shakespeare Conspiracy” is historical-fiction based on real people, events and documents.
